When it comes to funeral songs there is a lot to choose from. That said, we often hear the same themes. We thought it might be helpful to point out some amazing funeral songs that you would never usually think of.
5. Lay Me Down – Sam Smith
A brilliant song for a funeral and certainly one that is worth your consideration.
'Yes, I do, I believe That one day I will be where I was Right there, right next to you And it's hard, the days just seem so dark The moon, and the stars are nothing without you Your touch, your skin, where do I begin? No words can explain the way I'm missing you Deny this emptiness, this hole that I'm inside These tears, they tell their own story
Told me not to cry when you were gone But the feeling's overwhelming, it's much too strong Can I lay by your side, next to you? You And make sure you're alright I'll take care of you And I don't want to be here if I can't be with you tonight'
4. Halo – Beyonce
Another absolute classic that is perfect for paying tribute to a loved one at their funeral.
You're everything I need and more It's written all over your face Baby, I can feel your halo Pray it won't fade awayI can feel your halo (halo), halo I can see your halo (halo), halo I can feel your halo (halo), halo I can see your halo (halo), halo
3. In the Arms of an Angel - Sarah McLachlan
A truly beautiful song and one that people will find comfort in the lyrics.
Spend all your time waiting For that second chance For a break that would make it okay There's always some reason To feel not good enough And it's hard at the end of the day I need some distraction Oh a beautiful release Memories seep from my veins Let me be empty Oh and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight In the arms of the angel
Fly away from here From this dark cold hotel room And the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie You're in the arms of the angel
2. Hero – Mariah Carey
This song is a great choice in our list of funeral songs you would never think of. Its quite an uplifting son and most definitely spine-tingling.
It's a long road When you face the world alone No one reaches out a hand For you to hold You can find love If you search within yourself And that emptiness you felt Will disappear
And then a hero comes along With the strength to carry on And you cast your fears aside And you know you can survive So when you feel like hope is gone Look inside you and be strong And you'll finally see the truth That a hero lies in you, oh, oh
1. Three Little Birds – Bob Marley and the Wailers
Number 1 in our list of the best funeral songs is this little beauty. Quite uplifting a great at providing comfort to the bereaved, it's Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and The Wailers.
Rise up this mornin' Smile with the risin' sun three little birds pitch by my doorstep Singin' sweet songs of melodies pure and true sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou")
Singin don't worry 'bout a thing cause every little thing gonna be all right. Singin don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing, cause every little thing gonna be all right!
